Session #1 - Ground Rules
Our Bargaining Team had their first meeting with the District to lay the ground rules our bargaining.
Our Bargaining Team had their first meeting with District Management to establish Ground Rules for the 2026 meeting on Wednesday. PFSP came prepared with the ground rules proposal which included guaranteed release time for bargaining team members to prepare for negotiation sessions and the right to record sessions to share with our members.
Management was not willing to have sessions recorded. They countered with a proposal to allow meetings be available to members zoom, but we all know that most of our members are not able to attend a zoom meeting in the middle of their workday.
Management said that they were not willing to extend any release time without loss of pay for our bargaining team to prepare our proposals. But even more than that, management proposed that the District would allow release without loss of pay for four attendees, and the union would be responsible for the costs of any additional team members. This is less protection than we already have in our contract, which allows the release of six bargaining team members!
Needless to say, we still have a lot of work to do, and we’re ready to sink our teeth in and fight!
We are tentatively scheduled to have our next bargaining session on Thursday, March 5 but the power we have as a union isn't from what we do at the table, it's what each and every one of us do every day at our worksites. On Thursday, March 5, we need everyone to show up big and wear PFSP green! We will send a reminder text out in the morning, and collect photos of support saying we deserve full participation from our entire bargaining team. Management will not divide us.
United we bargain, divided we beg!
In solidarity,
Your Bargaining Team
